Referee Incapacitated Whilst Goal Being Scored

#193274

Postby Maroochydore » January 13th, 2019, 6:24 pm

Any refs or experts who can answer this hypothetical question?
Let's assume a defender clears the ball, it hits the ref and knocks him out. The ball bounces to an attacker who plays on and slots the ball into the goal.
Does the goal stand?
The ref hasn't blown to stop the game (obviously).
He also hasn't blown and pointed to the centre spot to indicate a goal (again obviously).
What happens?

maybe one of the ARs is next in line for seniority and can make the call?

Its easier in rugby union where such an occurrence would result in a scrum (when the ball hits the ref and benefits one of the teams thus), but AIUI in football its Its more of a problem at grass roots levels Id imagine as the ARs/TJs are likely to be from from the teams involved so not independent.

Perhaps the answer then is that the human being's health is more important that what is after all only a game... (?). Id imagine that would be match abandoned in such circumstances anyway.

I would think didds is correct. That the game would be abandoned because there is no ref from the point that he is knocked out.

No, didds . . . "Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that." Bill Shankly.

Random FIFA link from 2004 https://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeve ... _47411.pdf

If a referee is temporarily incapacitated play may continue under the supervision of the assistant referees until the ball next goes out of play.
