Anybody else watch this BBC4 documentary about rock drumming?

I found it fascinating, despite it being presented by Copeland.

It was interesting that, same as in another drummers documentary a while back, Ringo came in for praise of the originality of his drumming, whereas I often see people being disparaging of his skills.

An excellent program, and looking forward to the rest of the series. Who would have thought that the simple foot pedal had such a major influence on the history of music. I love it when music is analysed and you can see things in a different way. Recent programs with Neil Brand and Howard Goodall spring to mind. As for Ringo, "Tomorrow Never Knows" alone puts him at the top of the tree. I never knew he was left handed though.

That was a good programme. I was a drummer in a few bands in the late 70s and early 80s.

Will try to see it. Copeland is one of my favourite drummers.

Others: Palmer, Bruford, Collins. Can you tell how old I am?

And the bloke in the Holly Bush in Hampstead who turned up for a jazz gig with a stand, two sticks and a cardboard box and proceeded to turn half the building into a drum kit.

Re Ringo Starr, I wonder why he's put down so much, I remember specifically listening to him on a Beatle's track, which unfortunately, I can't recall the name of. I thought he did a good job, despite the well known quote, 'he's not even the best drummer in The Beatles', (Lennon perhaps?).

For anyone who has Sky the Sky Arts 4 (I think) part series called "The Art of Drumming", which was shown a few months ago and no doubt is on catch up, is excellent. It's a bit more in depth that the Stewart Copeland prog, which I enjoyed, and I highly recommend "The Art of Drumming" to interested drummers and non-drummers.
