A British visitor was stopped by customs at Melbourne airport and asked if he had a criminal record. He replied that he didn’t realise you still had to have one to get in.

I grew up a Monty Python fan and with a very dry sense of humour. I also get nervous very easily and crack jokes to ease tension. At an interview at a Cambridge science park I was asked if I had a criminal record. I replied with a straight face that yes, I did possess an LP by Little Jimmy Osmond (clue to how long ago!)

It fell flatter that the flattest pancake in the world. I didn't get the job, but learned a lot about keeping my mouth shut.
