Re: Salisbury..if it's not one thing then it's another!
Out on the rural bus route near us, there's a small farm beside a sleepy little river that's been there since the dawn of civilisation (or at least, since the Domesday Book), and whose flock of bossy aggressive geese has been scaring the hell out of the cyclists crossing the bridge for as long as there have been cyclists. Since it's a humpback bridge, the company drivers who use the road as a rat-run don't usually see the geese until they are already in mid-air. And so the number of wandering geese depletes from six to four, and then to just two, before the farmer restocks the flock and we get the full half-dozen again. The other day we were down to three again.
God knows why the farmer doesn't do anything to limit the roadkill tally, but he doesn't. Maybe they're a tax loss?
Mind you, the real menace to passing traffic is a mile or so away, at the home of one of our local MPs. The Honourable Member for North Wiltshire keeps a massive pet pig, which is often to be found wandering out on the blind bend outside his house. Over the years it's given the Beemer brigade a fair bit of opportunity to practise their emergency braking skills. Oh how we laugh. Except when it's our turn, obviously....

Said geese have been in that village for decades - certainly since before I moved to Wiltshire in the early 90s. The alleged nasty geese seem to be interlopers. Maybe surreptitiously dropped in by Putin.
Prob'ly.

And frankly Upavon is not really anywhere NEAR Salisbury. Closer than Moscow yes... but its hardly even a suburb. Its the best part of 20 miles and a 30 minute drive away!
