Gordon Bennet, how the other half live, or to be precise how the other half have lost touch with reality. I've yet to figure out what the Crime Commissioners are supposed to do - jack all it appears, but for a very healthy salary. Local Government, Police and NHS seem to be adept at creating non jobs.

£74,000
Plus NI, plus overheads plus cost of index linked pension, plus secretary, plus expenses, plus office space.
It really is a criminal waste of money!

A fuss like that will feed straight into their Agenda: it shows how people hate "diversity" issues (subtext: racism and the whole package) and demonstrating why more of it is needed. It's kind-of an updated variant on the theory of Class War.
I wonder who fed the story to meeja, and whether efforts were made to provoke a good knee-jerk reaction?

Re: £74000 for WHAT?????
For a good few years, my "go to" example of public sector excess was when my local council offered "£82,000 a year plus car" for someone to head up its diversity, inclusion and equity unit (or something like that).
The area in question is, of course, already extremely diverse. It is not like we do not already know how to do it and need to be taught. And yes, the very same council that is now complaining that it doesn't have enough money for social services, because of Covid, natch.
But I did think that this kind of thing had gone away now, after a decade or so of much-needed austerity. But apparently not. Sigh.

Only a decade? I thought we'd got rid of it back in the 1990s.

One wonders how much this person's boss is getting paid, the Director of Fairness and Belonging.

There is no Director of Fairness and Belonging, the Assistant Director reports to;
"The Director of People & Organisation Development" or so my research tells me. I could post a link but that may be a touch embarrassing...

I wouldn't give a monkey's if I lived in Tunbridge Wells but living as I do within the force in question's area of operation and sitting as I am next to one of its employees who works in a rather more productive customer facing role I am pretty unimpressed. You know where you can poke your woke would be my comment.
