Montanaro smaller companies IT?
Re: Montanaro smaller companies IT?
I have made two purchases of this trust, one in January 2014 and one in April 2019, of equal amounts, to add some more 'smaller company' exposure to my portfolio. The XIRR on capital up to today is 15%, which puts it in the top quartile of my IT holdings. So, as you say, it has done quite well.

MTE seems to be down over 5% today, anyone know why?
I tried Googling but couldn't find anything.

Appropriately it is one of the smaller ITs so it would not take a very big seller to take some profits for the share price to move downwards. That is the problem with small companies in general; they tend not to be very liquid and so big moves in either direction are not that unusual.

Yeah MTE has been on a roll for a few months so a fall from profit taking make sense - thanks!

I think that that volatility is likely to be a function of its small capitalisation. It does not take much to move the share price of such a small company.
I would leave it and revisit in 6 months.

Re: Montanaro smaller companies IT?
I've held MTE since 2011 and I have been very happy with it.
It has had several jerky rises over those years where it has put on 10% or so in a few days. I've always assumed that this results from a revaluation of some of the smaller holdings as this has been an explanation used several times in the Chairman's letter. Strangely Merryn Somerset-Webb often comments on it in Moneyweek at such times in her rag as she's a non-exec.
