Re: The Daily thread on the FT100.
I was expecting a further sell-off this morning in the light of this new covid variant. Was considering a top-up but prices actually went up. Perhaps there is hope that this new variant, whilst being very infectious, might not cause such bad disease. Trying to time the market ain't easy!

What's this? A thread on investment matters? Sure you are not breaking the rules? Anyway, I too am pleased to see the FTSE seems to recovered its poise after Friday and seems to be maintaining it this afternoon as well.

Well I see my whole portfolio hasn't recovered all the losses from Friday but similarly a couple of things I thought about buying have indeed recovered and even more so.

I have around 10% cash and another 35% in 'alternative' investments so I am disappointed that the selloff didn't turn into a buying opportunity.
But I have around 55% shares* so I am happy they didn't slump and make me feel poorer.
Glass half empty, glass half full. A no-win situation.
*
Not including precious-metal related shares/funds which march to the beat of their own drummer.

I’ve been tracking BME for a couple of weeks and today bought some at a price I was happy about.

Thanks. My point is that it is not often mentioned here and it is usual at least at first mention to spell out the name in full.

Re: The Daily thread on the FT100.
Took another 1.3% off ftse100 today because Moderna warns its vaccine is less effective against Omicron. Not a correction yet, but a pull back, 5 days down 3.4%.
My guess is be a few choppy weeks until they can tweak the vaccines to protect against the new variant. Best case get an improved vaccine and markets bounce back. Worst case Omicron becomes dominant and world back into lockdown. Still too early to say but market doesn't like uncertainty.

OTOH the Oxford lab that got the Astrazeneca vaccine up and running are confident that their vaccine will be good against the new variant and anyway they can tweak their vaccine easily if needs be. As someone said the markets do not like uncertainty and I think it best not to pay too much attention to every movement.

Re: The Daily thread on the FT100.
Another positive Monday market start again.
Very please to see my recent BME purchase go past the 640p point on the chart.
Where to next I wonder before the 11th of Jan when they are expected to issue a TS.

Re: The Daily thread on the FT100.
Well the index’s ft100 and dow both finished down nearly 1% at the close mainly on the new variant worries.
I took profits on BME Friday as was hoping for a dip today that didn’t disappoint and hoping to go back in at some point again.
My other favourite at the moment is LGEN who are rising nicely.
Finally decided to buy some Ashstead after much time deliberating about it.
My other likely outfits IGG and BAE are static to slipping down.
Happy trading all.
