He was right. The longer pile rapidly flattened on the stairs and looked worn. I should speak to your supplier and go with his advice.
I think the normal recommendation is for a lower-pile carpet on stairs, but I think that's perhaps a
separate consideration to the quality of the carpet itself, given that in all pile-types we're likely to be able to purchase quite a variation in both cost and quality...
