Does anyone else get grammar rage when watching TV programmes where the presenters constantly misuse "us" and "we"? I was always taught that a sentence should always make sense if you took part of it away, so for example:
"Us Brits when we go on holiday abroad like to eat fish and chips" is completely wrong as it would shorten to "Us like......" so it should be "We Brits...like...". It is mostly on the foody programmes and Greg Wallace and Jimmy Doherty are prolific offenders!
The other way around it would be something like "What is it about we Brits that we like to eat English food when holidaying abroad?" That would shorten to "What is it about we" so is blatantly wrong! Whatever happened to the BBC being the bastion of good English??

Yes, I do. And not only on TV but also in newspapers and magazines, especially where the author should know better. I still remember an article by Julie Burchill a few years back where she wrote something along the lines of "... a problem for we parents". I thought, Good God, she's a professional writer and still can't sort out her pronouns.

It's still a bit of a minefield for some people though, and not all of them are clueless. "Best wishes from my husband and me" would have quite a lot of educated people rushing to correct that to "my husband and I".
Whereas any fule kno that the correct form is "me and my husband".
