Re: Cheap payg phone tariff
.
1p mobile offers Talker 1-Year tarriff which has --
Unlimited calls and texts plus 250MB of data every month
Just £36 for a whole year.
they use the EE network which is it seems the best for coverage
so why would anyone bother with any thing else ?
seems too good to be true, wonder if there is a catch .

I guess it depends on your likely usage. It's still £36 more than I'm paying with RWG!

It was free, but they've put it up to £5 now

It was free, but they've now put it up to £5 (one-off payment) for 50mins/50SMS/250MB per month. No good for those who need unlimited calls and texts of course.
https://www.rwgmobile.wales/webshop/pay ... 50mb-data/
They also do a 100mins/100texts/750MB for a one-off payment of £15.
Payments remain as credit, and they use EE.
Great for us low users.

Re: Cheap payg phone tariff
Following your recommendation some time ago I joined RWG and have had no problems with the free version.
I use about 12mins phone and 100Megs data per month at the most.
My question is:
I take it the £5 is for new customers and not retrospective?
Regards,
ep

I would have thought it was for new customers only. I've not had a demand for £5 from them so far!

Re: Cheap payg phone tariff
Regarding RWG I have just sent these queries to RWG support but as I do not know how long they will take to reply if anyone here can answer some or all of my queries that would be great:-
I’m considering your ‘Free £15’ bundle, however when I am out of the UK and need data roaming am I able to just purchase the ‘Data Add on’ for one month? Or alternatively could I select the £6 per month bundle to enable calls and text as well as 750GB data for one month only and then not renew the bundle and go back to the basic ‘Free £15’ bundle after the month has ended?
If I use up the £15 credit at some point in the future what happens? Do I need to re add £15?
How long does it take typically to port my old number across to RWG?

AFAIK you don't have to, unless you expect to exceed your monthly allowance or need credit for something not included in the allowance. And even then it looks like you can topup in multiples of £5.
I've been using an RWG SIM for a year now, it has never had any credit on it and is still working just fine.

Thanks, I’m just waiting for the sim to arrive but everything I’ve read seems it will be a good deal for me

Thanks, from reviews I’ve seen they also suggest that you don’t need to retain any balance once the initial topup is used and you still get the monthly allowance. Seems a good deal to me.

Re: Cheap payg phone tariff
In case WiFi calling or VoLTE is important to anyone, the RWG support team tells me they don’t offer it but may do at some unknown point in the future - given that it is a company aiming their service at customers in Wales and the state of coverage, the absence of WiFi calling does seem surprising.

Re: Cheap payg phone tariff
Some months ago, after comments on here, I ordered a RWG Mobile payg sim (EE network) but did nothing with it.
This month I succumbed to the
"Double top-up January! Online top-ups made to your SIM during the month of January will be doubled. Maximum of £20 single top-up and maximum £60 top-up in the month. Doesn't apply to e-voucher or phone top-ups" offer. I invested £5.00, and gained £10.00 credit, so even though their rates are £0.05p/minute for calls, double bubble means it's £0.025p/minute. Hence, I have an extra EE sim card with £10.00 credit, ' just in case'.
If anyone's bothered:
https://www.rwgmobile.wales/
"Pay-as-you-go
You can use our service on a simple pay-as-you basis. Just top-up your account and charges will be deducted as and when you use it. Your credit will never expire.
VOICE: 5p min UK landline/mobile
SMS: 5p/SMS
DATA: 1p/MB
TOP-UP: Top-up via our online shop"

Re: Cheap payg phone tariff
PS/ You will recall that I've been banging on for years about O2's Classic payg tariff, with 3p/minute calls, 2p/text and 1p/Mb.
With this double credit offer, the RWG calls are 2 1/2p per minute, so if you are just wanting a phone - phone for emergency use, then this offer is cheaper than O2's 3p/minute.with EE credit that never expires. Fill yer boots!

I'm tempted to do a £15 topup, which doubles up to £30, and would also get me on to this:
https://www.rwgmobile.wales/webshop/pay ... 50mb-data/
so the credit would last even longer.

Re: Cheap payg phone tariff
The RWG sim card is branded "Now" and their (Now) direct rates are much higher. DAK how RWG tie-in with Now?
RWG website says, "RWG Mobile is powered by the Now/EE mobile network and also has its own data network to operate as a Pay-as-you-go and pay monthly mobile provider that gives you total flexibility of how you buy and consume your mobile services." but I don't really understand the chain or the financial model. DAK?
(By the way, SIM cards can be ordered free from RWG.)
