Re: Hot weather...
It's a too-warm 33C here in Sluff today (which is just over 90F in the old money)
Too warm to 'work' anyway, and i'm drinking about a pint of water an hour. My fan is just shifting hot air around.
I've got a week or so off starting tomorrow, so with grim inevitability it's going to be thunder for my walk to the station, and then a week of cooler cloudier, rainier weather back home until the heat beast comes back for when I start back to work

Re: Hot weather...
I'm with you all the way.
It might be an age thing. Years ago, I could handle a fairly constant 30-35c (85-95 in old money) and sometimes up to 40c (105) when I lived in SW France, but nowadays I just shut down over 20c. I probably just drank more cold beer in those days.

I hate barbeques. If they must entertain me, I'd rather someone cooked me a proper meal using modern techniques and equipment (such as a cooker). I mean it's just there. look. there.
What makes it worse is that you have to stand around conversing with other humans while trying to hold your paper plate and a drink. How are you supposed to eat your plate of heavily charcoaled meat and salad?
AND winged beasties start to take an interest in you.
AND your beer gets warm in the sun.
AND, did I mention, you have to stand around talking to other humans.
Bah.
OK Snorvey, you need to take the keyboard away from Simsqu, he's posting stuff in your name...

Re: Hot weather...
The great thing about this summer's weather is that one can eat one's evening meal al fresco - however it was cooked! Or not, if it is a salad.
It has rarely been possible to do this in recent summers as it was never quite warm enough by the evening.
I haven't had a problem with my beer getting warm - it's not around long enough! Although I do refrigerate my beer in summer.
Of course one has to fend off the inevitable wasps and other flies.

Is what we have had for some time.
June was hotter and muggy. July 1st was heavy rain (most of the total for May+June+July), but that stopped by about lunchtime leaving it hotter and muggier than ever. But a week or so later it cooled down to a consistent low-20s, where it remains.
Am I allowed to gloat here?

This is lovely at about 27/28C. I have no problem with this weather although I do get concerned about my garden. I have plenty of trees though and they provide some shade for my grass.
We are promised rain for Saturday and considering we had winter until the end of April, I am not complaining. The only problem is that it is a bit warm for sleeping at night. Sure as 'ell beats rain all summer and about 15C if we're lucky.

Re: Hot weather...
Well I'm certainly not complaining. If nothing else it enables me to smile smugly at all those people who asked disparagingly what was the point of buying a convertible when living in Lancashire!
We seem to have escaped the extreme heat of the south east, and since the beginning of May it's been perfect, generally around the early to mid-20's, though it has nudged over 30 a couple of times.
I've a friend who lives in Mountain View, near San Francisco, and this is very similar to the climate he enjoys. I would imagine that this is the first (and probably the last) time in history that the Lancastrian climate has been favourably compared with that of California!
The only downside is that as a fisherman I've not been fishing since the end of May, due to the very low water. I'm now very worried by the state of the local rivers, and the virtual impossibility of the unfortunate salmon and sea trout being able to swim up them.
So delightful as it's been I would actually welcome 3 or 4 days of really heavy rain - and then back to California please!

Having spent time working in New York, I always though British weather was better. Not so bitterly cold in winter, none of the muggy heat of dog day afternoons.
California is another thing but even then LA is too hot, and polluted. The SF Bay Area, where Mountain View is, has delightfully moderate weather. It never snows, never gets that hot, yet doesn't rain in the summer. Despite that the locals complain about it.
But then they would. As the saying goes about San Franciscans - "too dumb for NY - too ugly for LA".
As for this summer, what I have noticed is just how many people have tattoos. The exposure of skin reveals that and, at least for one demographic that is a tad unfortunate. I refer to middle-aged women. Tattoos were only for sailors and convicts until about 1990, when Jessica from Tunbridge Wells got a butterfly on her shoulder. Well, now Jessica is a grandmother, the skin has stretched and that butterfly is vanishing between the folds and under the stretch marks. Not a good look

I’m not in Norfolk nor the Pas de Calais. Here it is approaching 100 Fahrenheit and I think I’m melting.
You say it’s all over, well it’s not over now.

You think it didn't last long?
52 days and counting here, with a chance of some rain tonight and tomorrow.
Oh and the temperature will drop by 10C - to 2 degrees above seasonal average for round here!

I really meant that it didn't last long after the moaning started!

We're not quite sure yet.
Is it in your shoes?

I think his mum stitched a label to the inside of his underpants.
So, underclass then?

Re: Hot weather...
A Facebook friend has just gone to France. He went by ferry rather than the train shuttle. He posted pictures of
an almost empty car deck, on the day when the Shuttle was having major problems.
When I was doing a lot of trips to Europe by car I almost always took the ferry, because I could use the time to have a meal. Plenty of time and a nice meal on P&O Ferries.
