The recipe has worsened.
I have learnt from his wife that one of the stalwarts of our community has just passed away.
PinkDalek, Peter, to those that knew him from many Fool socials, loved this place as well as its predecessor.
He had a bloody fantastic sense of humour. I remember as, beer in hand, he smacked me on the head after I'd said I wouldn't know a Jew if one hit me on the head. Top bloke. I shall miss him awfully.
He was also a prolific reader of this site and was pretty much attuned to the rules and guidelines such that his numerous reports helped us pick-up on all sorts of things we would doubtless otherwise have missed.
I am a bit in shock and will now go drink a toast to Peter. I hope that at the next Social we can join in doing the same.
All the best team.
Chris

Re: The recipe has worsened.
It's sad to hear of any contributor passing away, and I suspect a fair number will have slipped away without us knowing. Certainly several names which I used to see don't appear any more, and I have a hunch that the average age of members here might be a tad higher than many sites.
It's perhaps a small consolation that we now know of PinkDalek's passing and as you say, we can raise a glass to his memory.
Cheers!

This is very sad news. I only 'knew' PD through his postings on this site (and the old one!). He will indeed be missed.

I am deeply, deeply saddened. I never met PD, but interacted with him virtually on numerous occasions. As you say, Chris, a top bloke. He really 'got' TMF/ TLF.
A very, very sad loss.

Re: The recipe has worsened.
Ach, awful news. Total shock.
I met PD many times at numerous Fool Socials in London - great bloke with a terrific sense of humour.
I was going to try to organise (I use the term loosely) another social when the restrictions lifted - hopefully this summer. It will not be the same without him.

That is such sad news. He always gave the impression of caring deeply about the site and wanted things to run smoothly.

Re: The recipe has worsened.
I'm gutted. I have never met anyone on TMF/LF and a couple of (very jocular) telephone conversations with Peter 15 years ago have been the nearest I have got. I had somehow acquired tickets for two nights for David Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall and he gratefully took my spares (at face value, I hasten to add!) as a birthday present for his wife. I think he always felt guilty that he got the night when David Bowie guested singing Arnold Layne. Although naturally envious, I know he was a big fan and I believe it was the only opportunity he ever had to see Bowie, so I could hardly begrudge him it - though it was the source of much recurring light-hearted banter over the years! Although we never met, with nearly twenty years of exchanges on Land of Off Topic Posts, other boards and the many PM's, he really felt like a friend. I am so sorry I never made it to a social to meet him in person.
By all accounts, a true gentleman who put a lot of time and effort into being one of the most helpful and courteous contributors to our site(s).
I still can't quite believe it.
My heartfelt condolences to his wife if she has access to this thread.

Thank you. In due course I will try to find some way for Evie, Peter's wife, to read all this. ChrisCryptoPlankton wrote: My heartfelt condolences to his wife if she has access to this thread.

Me neither - what sad news.
His love for this community, and also the previous one back at the Motley Fool, was evident to anyone who ever came in contact with PD over the years, and we'll all miss him terribly.

Re: The recipe has worsened.
Moderator csearle and I have conferred, and agreed that we'd like the site admins (Clariman and Stooz) to mark PD's passing with some sort of formal announcement or "thank you" on the home page or somesuch. It seems appropriate, given his extensive involvement with TLF and TMF over the years.
Yes, we're an ageing bunch, and yes, PinkDalek won't be the only much-loved Lemon to go. But PinkDalek was somehow special, and some of us regarded him as an unofficial moderator, as well a general all-round top bloke.
If you agree, please 'rec' csearle's initial post at the start of this thread.

That is indeed sad news. We shall do something as a mark, but I am away from the code at the moment to do anything physical.
But my condolences to his family and any one that knew him.

That is a shame. He was one of the most helpful people on here and will be sorely missed. He was usually the first person to be visible at our gatherings in Grafton Street. Condolences to his family.

Re: The recipe has worsened.
I met him twice at Lemon socials. One of those guys you felt like you'd known for years even though it was the first time you'd met. We spent the night talking wonderful nonsense until we were the last to leave and if we had been inside they would have been throwing us out. I almost missed my train home that night but felt I'd met a wonderful soul...I will miss him as will many.
Farewell Pink...

Re: The recipe has worsened.
I never met PD, but concur with all that has been said regarding his contributions here.
My little anecdote is rather different to others' above, but hope it may raise a small smile.
Part of the log-in procedure for the old Barclays Stockbrokers included asking for the account number. I always delete most cookies at the end of the day, and certainly never keep any financial log-ins. So I had to remember it each time. And as you may have now guessed, the account number began PD.
So PinkDalek was part of remembering my log-in, and still would be if Barclays hadn't changed things a few years ago.
My sincere condolences to his family and freinds.
Mike

May I also add my condolences. Like many, I never met PinkDalek - Peter as I now learn - but I have read innumerable posts by him and had great respect for his opinion and advice. A hard blow to lose such a stalwart member of our company.

An "In Memoriam" forum perhaps, where a thread title simply reflecting a poster's name can be opened and folk can post links to their memorable and helpful contributions here over the years? In order to respect their friends' and families' privacy it ought to be a "private" forum I would suggest, ie. folk have to request to join it.

Re: The recipe has worsened.
Forget me not
For I am there
In the beat of your heart
On the wing of your prayer
Forgive me my parting
And leaving you thus
A joyous reunion
Is waiting for us
Continue to strive
Toward your goal and be brave
Know that my love
Didn’t stop at the grave
My spirit is with you
Through good times and bad
I share all the joys
And the sorrows you’ve had
Feel my presence
Within your next breath
And realise
There’s no distance in death
Ask for my help
And I’ll answer your call
Reach for my hand
When you stumble and fall
Run the last mile
With a smile on your face
My arms will be waiting
When you finish the race
Always remember
My love is right there
In the beat of your heart
On the wing of your prayer.
