Hopeless Bloke - The best headline ever?
Today's headline in The Daily Star
"Hopeless Bloke says Hopeless Bloke is Hopeless, says Hopeless Bloke"
I would say you couldn't make it up, except that someone did. Thankfully!

Yup that's my favourite!
And for balance... when Mr Advocat took up work at Rangers the Daily Record ran:
"Dick Heads for Ibrox"
... on the back albeit, but it was stuck on a few fridges I know.

Re: Hopeless Bloke - The best headline ever?
We'd have to go a long way to beat ESPN, which back in 2005 reported that the Swiss Football team BSC Young Boys were now able to move into their newly constructed stadium with the headline:
"Young Boys Wankdorf erection relief"
http://m.espn.com/soccer/story?storyId=337901&src=desktop
I'm surprised that this story is still up given that ESPN is majority owned by Disney.
One that won't get past the censor filter dates back to 2001 when Eurosport reported on the transfer of Argentinean defender, Argelico F*cks, from Palmeiras to Benfica with the classic headline:
"F*cks off to Benfica"

Re: Hopeless Bloke - The best headline ever?
When Michael Foot was put in charge of a committee related to Nuclear disarmament, The Times ran a headline that said -
Foot Heads Arms Body
But one of my favourites is actually a fake headline from The Onion, but it works on so many levels that I hope it's still worth repeating here -
Jurisprudence fetishist gets off on technicality
And of those of us old enough, who can forget the Sun's headline in 1982, highlighting the late rejection of peace proposals surrounding the Falklands conflict -
Stick it up your Junta
Cheers,
Itsallaguess

Indeed, surely a best-ever.
More candidates from test-match commentary: I guess a slow game offers ample scope for imaginations to wander. For example, the bowler's holding the batsman's willey.

from the racing world
a Ted Walsh classic
"This is really a lovely horse. I once rode her mother"
and a John Motson pearl
"Brazil – they’re so good it’s like they are running around the pitch playing with themselves"

Beat this, then. News of the Screws, circa 1973:
Bit of an all-time classic among us meeja types. Although I still prefer the simplicity of one that came my professional way: "Inquest opens into dead woman".

One December, the FT carried a front-page story about a general election in Turkey, which it was hoped would resolve a serious electoral stalemate. The headline? "Turkey Votes for Christmas"

I recall the headline when David Mellor resigned from John Major's government, having been photographed sucking his mistress's toe
